EVERYONE GOES HOME!
The creed of this Safety Page is; EVERYONE GOES HOME! This web page is devoted to providing you with the tools to help you do just that; go home to your family after the call is over. We sincerely hope you will find something here that will make your next shift or call a little safer for you.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation held a symposium in Tampa,
Florida on March 10 and 11, 2004. This was a gathering of some of the greatest
minds in firefighting for the sole purpose of trying to find a way to decrease
the loss of life in the fire service. During the week of April 16, 2004, a follow-up meeting was held in Arizona to review the report and begin putting action behind words.
In March, we met again in San Francisco to put together an action plan to
implement the 16 firefighter initiatives. We have a goal of reducing firefighter
line of duty deaths by 50% in 10 years and we are marching forward.
In 2002, 2 firefighters died in a single training fire in Osceola County, Florida. In August of 2003 there was another Florida firefighter training death
in Miami-Dade County. In 2005 there were 106 Line Of Duty Deaths nationally.
Sixty-three (63) of those firefighters were volunteers. Thirteen (13) of the
2005 deaths were during training. There were three (3) Line of Duty Deaths in
Florida in 2005.
In 2006 we were able to avoid any LODD in Florida. In 2007, there were 115 LODD
nationally, four (4) in Florida.
