The NVFC has been fortunate to partner with Merck/Schering-Plough
Pharmaceuticals (MSP). The Sounding the Alarm For High Cholesterol
Program has arrived! The purpose of this Program is to educate all
firefighters on high cholesterol and that it comes from two sources:
food and family. To help with this, the NVFC Heart-Healthy Firefighter
Program has created a national mailing with MSP that will help
firefighters on the road to heart-health. The mailing includes posters,
decals, magnets, and the NVFC Hearth-Healthy Firefighter Resource Guide
on CD-ROM. All firefighters are encouraged to take the Heart-Healthy Challenge. The
Challenge is an online quiz that tests firefighters' knowledge of
cholesterol, heart-health, and firefighter fatalities.

http://atechsecurity.co.uk/what_is_smokecload.htm
We have been told by some departments that
they have been running into "smoke in structure" calls that turn out to
be intrusion alarms activating smoke emission equipment. This is an idea
which comes from Great Britain, the country that is also the greatest
supplier of artificial smoke and smoke generators used by fire training
centers. You will probably be seeing a lot more of these types of
systems over the next few years. The attached link will take you to one
manufacturer/supplier having the best Q&A we have been able to find.

www.FirefighterCloseCalls.com
FirefighterCloseCalls.com was an idea born from The Secret List, an
independent newsletter produced since 1998 in an effort to bring forward
the issues involving injury and death to firefighters ... often issues
that are ignored, quickly forgotten or just not talked about. Originally
started as an e-mail group amongst some close friends in the fire
service, it is currently received by thousands of fire service members.
