The Division of Public Assistance Fraud (PAF) serves taxpayers and safeguards Floridians against public assistance fraud and the impact of those crimes by enforcing state laws regarding program eligibility and proper use of public assistance benefits.

On the state level, the Division partners with the Department of Children and Families, the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Department of Health, and the Department of Education’s Office of Early Learning to investigate fraud in programs administered by those departments. On the federal level, the Division partners with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Services, the Social Security Administration, and the Department of Health and Human Services to help monitor and regulate fraud within our public assistance programs.

PAF is responsible for investigating allegations of:

  • Fraud against the Cash Assistance/Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program
  • Fraud and trafficking involving Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as food stamps
  • Medicaid recipient fraud
  • Fraud resulting from Disaster Assistance/Emergency benefits
  • Fraud against the School Readiness and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten programs
  • Schemes to defraud Social Security Disability benefits

Public assistance fraud hurts our fellow Floridians who need assistance. Each one of these programs plays a crucial role in aiding members of our communities in their greatest time of need. As the state with the second largest population of public assistance participants in the nation, every dollar counts. You can be part of the solution to stop benefits from being given to those who don’t qualify for assistance or are abusing these benefits.
