It Only Makes Cents: Our Children, Their Financial Future

As parents, guardians, support providers, family and friends, it is our responsibility to introduce smart money management to our children to help prepare them for major financial decisions ahead. Imagine not knowing how to balance your checkbook or how much is best to pay on your credit card bill. Now, think about those financial lessons you learned the hard way. If we can help our children avoid such money mistakes, why wouldn't we, especially when resources are so easily accessible?

As we observe Financial Literacy Month and Teach Children to Save Day on April 20th, it is an opportune time to start discussing finances with the children in your life. Each week we will highlight one of the Department’s financial education programs that teach or help you teach the children in your life about finances.
